Founded in 1895 as Peiyang University, Tianjin University is the oldest institute of higher education in China, and pioneered the development of modern Chinese education.

Yao Jianquan
Professor Yao Jianquan was born in Shanghai in 1939. He entered TJU in 1957, and earned his Master’s degree in 1965. After that, he began his academic career at TJU. Currently, he is serving as a member of the Chinese Optical Society (COS), Vice-Director of the Laser Processing Committee of COS, Vice-Director of Tianjin Laser Society, and Vice-Director of the Modern Optical Instrument Research Institute at TJU. At the same time, he is a member of the Optical Society of America (OSA), and SPIE, and senior visiting researcher at the University Of Southern California. In 1997, Professor Yao was elected a member of CAS.
