On March 3, the 2022 Outstanding Student Competition under the theme of “Tianjin University scholars set the vision for a new era” was held at the Qiushi Hall on Peiyangyuan campus.

Han Qinghua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Tianjin University attended the selection. The relevant principals of the Party Office, the Office of President, the United Front Work Department, the Students Affairs Department, the Office of Academic Affairs, the Graduate School, the Alumni and Fund Affairs Office, the Youth League Committee, the Sports Department and other departments served as the judges. Teachers in charge of student work at the colleges served as faculty member judges, and more than 600 student representatives from all colleges served as student judges.

In the selection, 15 candidates from 13 colleges gave a full and vivid demonstration of their achievements in academic research, social practice, innovative entrepreneurship, voluntary service, literature and sports. Some of them are devoted to scientific research who have published papers with cumulative impact factors exceeding 80 and participated in national major scientific research projects for many times. Some are dedicated to innovation, with 27 licensed patents and 34 national competition awards. Some work hard to fight poverty, some of them vow to be chemists who served the people.

Zhao Xin, the minister of the Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee and the Office of Students Affairs, announced the list of winners and extended his warm congratulations. He hopes that all the students would follow the example of these outstanding students and grow up to be new generation who are capable of shouldering the responsibilities of national rejuvenation.

Finally, Han Qinghua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee said that in the first year of comprehensively studying and implementing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, the university held the 11th Party Congress with the aim of fully implementing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress. The selection aims to cultivate outstanding talents with the love of family and motherland, global perspective, innovation spirit and practical ability so as to adapt to the new journey of the Chinese path to modernization proposed by the 11th Party Congress.

He also offered three points of hope to the students. First, establish the lofty ideals of the new era and realize them through unremitting struggle; Second, inherit the historic mission of building a strong country through education and do so on the ground; and third, shoulder the responsibility of national rejuvenation, maintain the confidence to keep pace with the times, and serve the country and the people wholeheartedly.

The evaluation event has been held for 15 years in a row. It is an important initiative for the school to set an example and guide students to learn. It also reflects the school’s efforts to fulfill the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. It’s also a remarkable result of the comprehensive reform of the talent training of general education.

Finally, the “stay true to the original” information group gave the speech with the theme of “live youth to the fullest with great belief”.
