The fifth China Higher Engineering Education Forum, hosted by the Academy of Higher Education, opened in Changsha on November 8. Tianjin University as a convening unit organized the "Emerging Engineering Specialty Construction and Development" sub-forum. Experts and scholars from Tianjin University, Tongji University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Central South University, University of Electronic Science and Technology, North China Electric Power University and other colleges and universities gathered together and provided suggestions for the further reform and development of engineering education.

Professor Ma Tingqi from TJU’s School of Education delivered an academic report entitled "paradigm transformation and realization path of new engineering construction". In the report, Professor Ma provided a theoretical basis and a new perspective for deepening reform of emerging engineering education (3E).

Professor Ma pointed out that 3E should focus on the essential requirements of constructing first-class undergraduate programs, and explore new construction transformation and new driving force for further reform. He said that it was high time to follow the road map previously drawn for 3E development and put it into practice since 3E construction has entered the critical period.

"There is no fixed model to advance 3E. From phase 1.0 to phase 2.0, we should not only solve the problem of why and what to do, but also pay more attention to the system and mechanism of how to do." In this regard, Professor Ma proposed to integrated discipline, specialty and curriculum construction, maintain policy consistency among schools, departments and specialties, and ensure construction quality.

It was reported that the Higher Engineering Education Forum, as an important part of the 55th China higher Education Expo, brought together a large number of theoretical and practical achievements in the construction of emerging engineering education and served as an important platform for academic exchanges and discussions.
